6th COMMUNITY SERVICES DAY: Free entertainment, information & more! Rain or shine! Community Services Day takes place on Saturday, September 11, 2010, 12-4 PM, at Brickyards Park / Patty Turner Center, in Deerfield with:Demos and information • Balloon twisters & entertainment • Helicopter (weather/schedule dependent) • “Touch a Truck” • Inflatable rides for children • Craft Activity Tent • DJ for teens • Food/Refreshments (for sale). A Passenger/Child Safety Seat Checkpoint runs from 9-11:00 a.m. at the south parking lot; SWALCO’s electronics recycling / collection activity is tentatively set for 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Public Works building, 465 Elm St.; and, new this year, is a Pet Vaccination and Microchip Clinic near the Patty Turner Center building, also from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Deerfield Park District is one of the Event Hosts, along with the Village, Fire and Police Departments, and the Bannockburn Police Dept. The Event is sponsored by The John Buck Company, Parkway North; Astellas Pharma U.S., Inc.; Deerfield Park Foundation. Jewell Contract Dining is donating food for the volunteer workers. The American Legion Post 738 will post the colors at 1:00 p.m., followed by a special presentation to honor Emergency First Responders, as this year’s event occurs on 9/11. Local community service clubs and organizations will set up booths and provide information and often freebies/giveaways. Deerfield Park Foundation sponsors entertainment and will run a Helicopter Ball Drop at approximately 3:30p.m. Live entertainment will be on stage throughout the afternoon. Il Forno Pizza will offer food for sale. Brickyards Park is near the corner of Kates and Pfingsten; the Patty Turner Center is 375 Elm, both are in Deerfield. Public parking for this event is at the 155 Pfingsten office building parking lot (across from Brickyards Park). Emergency services demos & helicopter activities depend upon availability and weather. Helicopter Golf Ball Drop at Community Services Day - for Fun & Prizes Our Deerfield Park Foundation sponsors the exciting, new Helicopter Golf Ball Drop event where golf balls will be dropped from a helicopter hovering over Brickyards Park on Saturday, September 11, at approximately 3:30 p.m. The Foundation is the Entertainment Sponsor for Community Services Day (CSD) which runs from 12-4 PM at Brickyards Park/Patty Turner Center on Saturday, September 11. CSD is a FREE informational/educational/recreational event open to everyone. As a fundraising activity, the Foundation is selling tickets that correspond to the numbered golf balls to be dropped. Cash prizes will be awarded to the ticket-holders of numbered golf balls that drop in or closest to the "winners circle:" 1st = $500; 2nd = $250; 3rd = $100. Everyone purchasing a ticket also receives a coupon of value (while quantities last). You may sponsor a numbered golf ball for $20 each - available online at www.deerfieldgolf.org/foundation. We will mail your golf ball number(s) & a special value coupon. Or, you may get your numbered golf ball ticket and coupon at Deerfield Park District's administration office, 836 Jewett Park Drive, in Deerfield. Helicopter activity to take place weather permitting; winners will be selected rain or shine. Special Thanks to Major Sponsor: Northside Community Bank! 2010 Mudfest - Sunday, September 12 - 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Jewett Park Hey High Schoolers, gather your team together and join in the annual friendly MUDDY fun! Events include mud tug-o-war, mud volleyball and a pie eating competition. Cost is $10 per person and includes an official 2010 MUDFEST t-shirt. Registration packets can be downloaded here or can be picked up at the Deerfield Police Station or Jewett Park Community Center. Tinman Triathlon Results The results are in! The winner of the 2010 Tinman Triathlon is Joey Feinberg, age 18, for the second consecutive year! His time of 43:38 eclipsed his 2009 time by over 3 minutes. Top female finisher was Bailey Hatch, age 22, with a time of 47:15 (6th place overall).
